Some of you might remember my trip to Uganda this past July. My brother works for a non-profit called UAPO (Uganda American Partnership Organization) that was started by Brittany Merill, an SMU grad. What started off as a plan to build an orphanage for 180 children has now turned into a full fledged non-profit organization with several projects all across Uganda. One of those is the Akola Project. A group of widows makes these beautiful necklaces and in return receives wages that are used to pay for their children’s schooling and basic needs for their family. I had the chance to visit with these women this summer, and I can honestly say that they are some of the most caring, faithful, and strong women I have ever met.
So with all that being said, UAPO is having it’s fall Akola Trunk show this week (Monday-Wednesday) from 10:00-7:00 here in Dallas at my parents’ house. All proceeds go to help these women and continue this amazing project. For those searching for Christmas gifts, this is a great place to find them! Every time I wear one of my necklaces, at least one person stops me and tells me how much they love them. If you are interested in more details and need the address for the show please email me.
And here is a link to a short video about the project and these amazing women.
